Branden Braddock who was born in Mt.Vernon, Illinois on February 28, 1987 and passed away in Phoenix, Az on April 27, 2002 at the age of 15.

Helmet Safety

 
Brandens death caused an overwhelming desire to make sure that all parents understand the importance of having our children wear their helmets when playing on anything with wheels.  I know that we all rode our bikes and skated without helmets thoughout our lifes and as many have stated to me, we survived.  That is very true.  But we also all survived years of not wearing a seat belt and today we would never think of putting our children in a car without one.  These lessons are all passed on to others from the pain and suffering of parents who have lost thier children.  The pain of living without your child and knowing that a $20 helmet could of prevented Branden from the injury that sent him to the hospital and being in the care of the doctors who made the mistakes that lead to his death is so painful that I do not want anyone else to ever have to endure.  I can't bring Branden back even though there are days that I spend hours wishing I could.  But I can pass on the knowledge and hard lessons that I have learned.  It is my hope that Branden's death may have saved others.  I continue to talk about helmet safety to children and parents.  Always remember to be the parent, no helmet, no play.  As I have engraved on Brandens headstone, "Be safe, Be cool, Wear a helmet."

Importanta castii de protectie

Moartea lui Branden a fost cauza unei dorinte coplesitoare de a ma asigura ca toti parintii inteleg cat de important este ca copiii nostri sa poarte casti de protectie atunci cand merg pe orice are roti.

Stiu ca toti am mers pe bicicleta si am mers pe role/cu skateboard-ul fara casti de protectie fara sa ne gandim la vietile noastre si, asa cum mi-au spus si altii, am supravietuit. Este foarte adevarat.

Dar de asemenea am supravietuit si anilor in care nu am purtat centura de siguranta si astazi nu ne-am gandit niciodata sa ne punem copiii intr-o masina fara centura de siguranta. Toate aceste lectii sunt transmise mai departe catre altii din durerea si suferinta parintilor care si-au pierdut copiii.

Durerea de a trai fara copilul tau stiind ca o casca de 20$ ar fi putut preveni ranirea lui Brandon, ranire in urma careia a ajuns la spital unde a fost ingrijit de medici care au facut greselile care au dus la moartea lui, este atat de dureroasa incat vreau ca nimeni sa nu mai trebuiasca sa o indure vreodata.

Nu pot sa-l aduc pe Brandon inapoi desi sunt zile in care imi petrec ore dorindu-mi sa pot. Dar pot sa transmit mai departe cunostintele si lectiile dure pe care le-am invatat.  Sper ca moartea lui Branden a salvat alte vieti. Continui sa vorbesc despre casca de protectie copiilor si parintilor.

Totdeauna aminteste-ti sa fii parintele care spune: "Nu porti casca, nu mergi cu rolele/skate-board-ul/bicicleta!"!  Asa cum am gravat pe piatra de mormant a lui Branden:

''Fii in siguranta, fii grozav, poarta casca de protectie.''
